چکیده
Coccidian protozoa of Cyclospora cayetanensis are obligate intracellular apicomplexan parasites that infect the mucosal epithelium of the small intestine of immunocompetent and immunocompromised persons. A 25- years old woman from around, Tehran with complaint of faintness and fatigue with HIV positive/AIDS confirmed eight months ago was admitted in Imam Khomeini Hospital, Tehran, Iran in 2014. The patient suffered from intestinal and lung symptoms like watery diarrhea, flu-like symptoms. The stool was examined by direct preparation and concentration technique, stained with modified acid-fast staining method, and observed with light and then Immunofluorescence microscope. The stool cultivation was made in dichromate potassium medium and diagnosis of Cyclospora infection was finally made according to observation of Cyclospora oocysts almost 10 μm in acid-fast staining method and autofluorescence of Cyclospora under Immunofluorescence microscope. The patient was initially treated with azithromycin, tazocin and fluconazol because of lung lesions and diarrhea and relative remission was observed. Cyclospora sp. causes an intestinal infection particularly in immunocompromised patients.

Diarrhea due to Cyclospora-like organism in an immunocompetent patient.
Cyclospora cayetanensis infection continues to be a major cause of diarrhea particularly in immunosuppressed patients. The emergence of new related parasite pathogens, is an issue of public health concern. We report here a case where a Cyclospora-like organism was the cause of diarrhea in an immunocompetent patient from Venezuela.

Cyclospora cayetanensis is a coccidian protozoa that was newly recognized in 1979 in Papua New Guinea. We report the case of a 42-year-old French man who had visited Vietnam and presented with fever and watery diarrhea that had lasted for more than 2 weeks. The patient was diagnosed with C. cayetanensis infection by examination of a stool smear using UV fluorescence microscopy. Based on this ra...

The genus Cyclospora is in the subclass Coccidia, phylum Apicomplexa. This genus is taxonomically related to coccidian genera in humans. This organism has previously been referred to as a cyanobacterium-like body (CLB) and, in recent years, a new coccidian pathogen, Cyclospora cayetanensis, has been putatively identified (1, 2). No other species of Cyclospora affecting humans have yet been dete...

Cyclosporiasis occurs in persons of all age groups and either in immunocompetent or immunocompromised hosts. The most characteristic feature of this infection is a syndrome of acute or chronic diarrhea. This parasite is worldwide in di...

epithelium, we believed this organism to be a Cyclospora sp. rather than a Cystoisospora sp. We searched the serum bank of the Division of Parasitic Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and identified a serum sample from a person with a case of C. cayetanensis cyclosporiasis. An indirect immunofluorescence test was performed by using this serum on a deparaffinized section of th...
